A new approach to ITSM: Atlassian launches Jira Service Management

Atlassian has renamed its popular ITSM solution Jira Service Desk (JSD) to Jira Service Management (JSM) and has added many new features. “High-velocity ITSM, powered by Jira,” is how Atlassian describes the product released on November 9, 2020 in the official announcement. Based on the power of Jira and key DevOps and Agile principles, JSM was designed to accelerate and optimize team collaboration. Development, IT operations and business teams thus benefit equally from the modern, lean ITSM solution.

With a clear cloud focus into the future: Atlassian is phasing out server products

In recent years, Atlassian has invested heavily in expanding the cloud offering for the Atlassian toolchain (Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Service Desk, Bitbucket / Bamboo, Access). In addition to numerous new functions reserved for the cloud variant, various service offers and server locations in Europe/Germany, more and more apps are now available on the Atlassian Marketplace for Cloud. For customers who have special requirements regarding their own data center, availability and security or who need to connect to their own systems, Atlassian has also expanded the data center version with extensive functions. Atlassian has now announced that it will phase out the Server deployment variant with a 3.5 year lead time, which will mean major changes for many customers, especially in the German-speaking world.
