In July 2020, Atlassian released new releases for Jira Software, Jira Service Desk and Bitbucket – both in the server and data center versions. We have summarized the most important improvements and new features for you.
Jira Software Server and Data Center 8.11
The new release of Jira Software Server and Data Center 8.11 brings the following new features to administrators and users:
- Restriction of the sprint drop-down list to proposals for the project scope
- Possibility to select issues without opening the detailed view
- Improve Jira Server performance with an issue counter for favorite filters
- Ability for admins to view and manage all filters, dashboards, subscriptions and boards on the instance
According to Atlassian, the above-mentioned functions should eliminate the confusion for users. The experience with sprint boards is improved and at the same time the performance of favorite filters is increased.
For example, the sprint drop-down restriction helps clarity by no longer showing sprints from boards in another project or causing users to link an issue to the wrong sprint because sprints have the same name. With the option to select issues without having to open “DetailView”, the workflow can be improved for different user groups and saved in the settings will be saved.
Displaying the number of issues for favorite filters improves performance and reduces the likelihood of “Out of Memory” (OOM). Last but not least, admins can view and fix problems caused by users in some filters, dashboards, filter subscriptions or forums in the Our Interface (UI) and do not have to do any direct editing in the database.

Jira Service Desk Server and Data Center 4.11
Atlassian has announced the following enhancements for the new release of Jira Service Desk Server and Data Center 4.11:
- Multilingual customer portal
- AUI9 upgrade for improved accessibility
- Extended invoice verification (Data Center)
With the multilingual Customer Portal, project administrators will be able to provide translations for the Customer Portal, including portal names, announcements, and request types (names, descriptions, and fields) so that customers can get help in their preferred language.
The upgrade to AUI9 (Atlassian User Interface) brings additional usability improvements, including more consistent use of keyboard shortcuts and better support for screen readers.
The data center version of Jira Service Desk offers enhanced auditing capabilities. This will enable administrators to track and log actions – from SLA changes to archived issues. With these advanced auditing capabilities, administrators can create security-related, chronological documentation that can help meet an organization’s compliance and security requirements.

Bitbucket Server and Data Center 7.4
With the release of Bitbucket Server and Data Center 7.4, Atlassian introduces the first phase of integrated CI/CD (Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment) with Bamboo and Jenkins. The integrated CI/CD facilitates the establishment of a CI/CP pipeline and provides contextual feedback at every stage of the software development cycle. The first phase of this integration will include a builds page within Bitbucket that will display the latest commit results from Bamboo/Jenkins. Users no longer need to switch between applications to get the latest information.
In addition to this builds page, version 7.4 brings more features:
- The ability to display comments that are no longer visible in a pull request, including comments that are included in other diff views or that are obsolete. This provides additional context and allows you to understand why changes were made.
There are improvements in Advanced Auditing for the Data Center variant:
- Extended coverage
- Filter according to categories
- The ability to change log file retention settings
- Control who can delete repositories
