Atlassian is on tour in September and October with a new international event series: the Atlassian Open 2019. At the kick-off event on 9. and 10 September 2019 in Vienna, experienced Atlassian experts announced highly anticipated product news and updates around the Atlassian toolchain. The event in Sydney, Australia, follows from the 30. September to 01. October, afterwards it goes from the 29. until 30 October to the USA to Boston. As an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner, catworkx was represented as a sponsor and exhibitor with its own booth in Vienna and presented the new product family “Teamworkx – Enterprise Products by catworkx” as well as the catworkx service portfolio.
A relaxed business networking between customers, sponsors and the host Atlassian formed the start of the two days of the event. Our catworkx team was there as a sponsor and presented, among other things, the product family “Teamworkx – Enterprise Products by catworkx”. Teamworkx intelligently combines services, operational solutions, and apps into a complete enterprise portfolio within the Atlassian ecosystem. Abdelkerim Khermane (Senior Product Manager, catworkx) illustrated the individual product lines to visitors at the booth in his demo sessions “Teamwork Cloud”, “Teamworkx Apps”Teamworkx Apps and “Teamworkx Suite”. Says Khermane, “With Teamworkx products, we help customers at a wide range of experience and user levels realize the potential of their Atlassian environment quickly, easily, and efficiently. To solve customer problems, we let 17 years of Atlassian expertise inform our product development.” At the boothwas also the holistic catworkx services portfolio for Atlassian environments unveiled. This includes process consulting and implementation, app development, platform solutions for operations, official Atlassian training, and comprehensive licensing services.
We were very pleased with the good attendance at the catworkx booth and the interesting discussions we had in Vienna and would like to thank all visitors to the booth.
Presentations and product updates
The packed agenda had, in addition to the exhibition at the Messe Wien Exhibition Congress Center, more in-depth product contributions on Jira Align, Confluence Server & Data Center 7.0, Bitbucket Cloud and Portfolio for Jira 3.0 in the repertoire, which attracted visitors to the presentation area. During the presentation slots, the stage belonged to top-class Atlassian speakers and customers who reported on their experiences and future direction in the context of digitalization.
In summary, both days of the event were packed with forward-looking topics, product updates and announcements, the most important of which we have summarized for you:
Data Residency (Early Access Program) – Atlassian Announces Control Feature in Jira Software and Confluence Cloud
Atlassian plans to offer a new control feature called “Data Residency Management” with the goal of continuously improving data protection in IT systems. The aim is to support companies worldwide in fulfilling their data protection obligations. The Early Access Program (EAP) initially includes Data Residency Management for Jira Software and Confluence Cloud. Enterprise companies can thus determine whether their company’s primary data is hosted in the EU or the USA. Atlassian will migrate customer data to one of the AWS data centers in the EU or the US, as well as use a second data center in the same area to provide backup and resiliency.
Cloud: Advanced Cloud Testing for All Server and Data Center Customers
Atlassian is offering a free cloud subscription including advanced cloud testing for all server and data center customers. Customers can use this offering to test whether a cloud is right for them and to do so before they leave their self-managed solution. They can test both standard and premium offerings, get instant access to the latest cloud features and innovations. With increased assessment, planning and migration time, they can successfully move to the cloud with minimal disruption to their teams. All server or data center customers receive a free cloud subscription (up to a maximum of 5000 users) plus the duration of the remaining maintenance (or a minimum of 60 days). Extended cloud trial licenses will soon be available on my.atlassian.com.
Cloud First with Jira Software Cloud Premium and Confluence Cloud Premium
With Cloud Premium, Atlassian aims to offer customers more choice: Cloud Premium is designed for teams that need to securely scale mission-critical Atlassian products in the cloud using advanced platform and product features. Cloud Premium is available now for Confluence Cloud and Jira Software Cloud . Premium versions are based on proven cloud services and unlimited storage, service level agreement: 99.9% uptime, backed warranty through service credits, and 24/7 premium support including response time within 1 hour for critical events. Confluence Cloud Premium will also include Analytics and Admin Key features at the product level.
New features in Atlassian Access
Atlassian Access provides new enterprise visibility, control, and security capabilities for all Atlassian Cloud products. The user management – as well as the administration of permissions – should thus be considerably simplified. In addition to SSO integration with Microsoft ADFS, what’s new is that Atlassian has partnered with Google’s Cloud Identity to enable user lifecycle management and SAML SSO for Jira software, Confluence, and other Atlassian cloud products through direct integration with Atlassian Access.

Newly designed customer portal in Jira Service Desk
A redesigned customer portal is now available for Jira Service Desk Server and Data Center. A new search bar is available to encourage self-service. Furthermore, the portal can be used with its own Banner, themes and color combinations can be customized. Atlassian is working to make agents’ work more efficient. First step is to improve the queues to reduce the time spent searching for tickets and information.
“Smart Mirror Farms” for Bitbucket Data Center
Atlassian allows smart mirrors to be clustered to form so-called “farms”. These, behind a load balancer, increase the CI/CD capacity of teams and reduce the time it takes globally distributed teams to wait for their build results. Atlassian has conducted intensive performance testing internally to provide assurance to large enterprise customers that throughput of operations has been accelerated.
Issue archiving for Jira Software and Jira Service Desk Data Center
Issue archiving is now available in Jira Software 8.4 and Jira Service Desk Data Center 4.4. These automation rules enable the archiving of issues in large quantities. Outdated tickets that slow down system usage are reduced.

Atlassian is adding CDN support to the Data Center product line so that the end user experience can be accelerated. In addition to providing CDN support, Atlassian has begun automatically checking to see if HTTP/2 is enabled for Jira Software, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Jira Service Desk, for both Server and Data Center editions.
Coming soon – Advanced Deployment Support
In the near future, Atlassian will be adding Docker images for enhanced AWS and Azure support.
Partner Day (11.09.) and AtlasCamp (12.09)
The “Partner Connect” was connected to the Atlassian Open on the following day. The agenda of exclusive keynotes and breakout sessions targeted Atlassian Solution Partners, Marketplace Vendors, Corporate Resellers and Training Partners from around the world. To accompany the official event message, “The Future is the Cloud,” Atlassian answered some of the most pressing questions around the cloud at Partner Connect.

Developers benefited from the 11. and September 12 from talks on Ttopics such as advanced app development, code optimization and experience design. Among other things, it was announced that Atlassian will be launching a new development framework called Forge that will be able to build applications that run on Atlassian infrastructure, are secure by default, and have more integrations with Atlassian products.
