Atlassian announced back in March 2021 that data residency would be included in its Standard and Premium cloud plans later this year. Now Atlassian has officially announced the roll-out. The Data Residency feature will be available at no extra charge in Atlassian’s cloud products Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence. Companies are then free to decide in which region their data is stored. Atlassian’s primary goal with this change is to motivate server customers to move to the cloud with confidence and security. We have summarized Atlassian’s roll-out plans for the “Data Residency” for you.
Earlier this year, Atlassian had announced the highly anticipated news that data residency would be included in its standard and premium cloud plans later this year, without a corresponding price increase. Now Atlassian has announced the roll-out, the official addition of data residency to its standard and premium cloud plans for Jira Software, Confluence, and Jira Service Management. Data residency was previously only included in the Enterprise Cloud plan. Atlasssian is thus implementing what has long been an issue for companies: control over where data is hosted. This is relevant to customers of all sizes, and for many, a prerequisite for cloud adoption. The rollout provides for the following:
- New cloud licenses created after June 30, 2021 will have “Data Residency” automatically enabled.
- For existing cloud licenses, data residency will be automatically enabled through October 2021.
The information about the new cloud licenses is especially relevant for server customers who are already considering a migration to the cloud. Customers who have not been able to migrate to the cloud due to data residency requirements can now plan their migration: starting June 30, 2021, it will be possible to purchase a new cloud license with “Data Residency” automatically enabled.
Atlassian continues to announce that server customers with existing cloud licenses will have all data that needs to be stored in the US, EU or Australia available by October 2021.
To stay up to date on when data residency will be available outside of the US and EU, please see the Public Cloud Roadmap provided by Atlassian.
catworkx offers a free webinar on this topic. In the webinar “Ready for Atlassian Cloud – Exploiting migration opportunities in a targeted manner” on July 29, 2021, we will show you under which conditions a server cloud migration is successfully possible, which tools are currently available and which opportunities can arise for companies. It outlines the opportunities that Atlassian’s cloud strategy now presents to enterprises and what environmental conditions should be in place for easy migration from server to cloud. Our experts also cover the topic of DSGVO and talk about suitable licensing. Click here to register.
