With the Atlassian Cloud into the future

Software-as-a-service solutions have long since ceased to be a trend. Increasingly, IT services such as data storage, computing power or application software are being outsourced to the cloud on a large scale. Atlassian is also on this trend-setting path as an innovation driver and has four different cloud offerings (Free, Standard, Premium & Enterprise) with the appropriate hosting and operating platform for companies and institutions of all sizes.

Technologically the best combined

Atlassian’s cloud infrastructure is implemented with the industry leader Amazon Web Services (AWS). Thanks to this combination of the Atlassian Cloud Stack and the AWS as infrastructure, the growing number of customers and users in the Atlassian Cloud is no problem. This means that users do not have to worry about software or hardware updates at any time. Atlassian provides the hosting and operation so that the cloud products are always up-to-date. For optimal performance worldwide, the Atlassian Cloud has been further designed with options to avoid redundancy and downtime.

High compliance and security

For Europe, Atlassian has established its own cloud hosting infrastructure in Germany and Ireland. European cloud customers, especially for Jira or Confluence, will benefit from improved product performance, lower latency and other advantages of local data storage. By hosting within Europe, Atlassian is committed to adhering to the high data protection guidelines in the European area. Atlassian cloud products are also certified to many standards, including SOC2 or ISO27001/27018. Continuous innovation through new features, integrations, and enhancements: Automated updates ensure that administrators and end users are always available with the latest cloud capabilities to be fast and productive with high quality. With over a thousand Marketplace apps, each environment can also be customized and expanded to meet specific needs.

Future security for businesses through scalability

Leverage the technologies of the future and focus clearly on the core business: Atlassian Cloud optimally supports seamless, cross-functional collaboration in the team. When needed, the system grows easily and can be scaled easily, for example with higher demands on data capacity or increasing access and user numbers.

Reliable results with lower operating costs

Server operations, maintenance and downtime are a thing of the past: Immediately-ready systems – taking into account security requirements, compliance and governance – bring great relief and time savings for administrators. The internal costs for hosting and operation are eliminated, the billing model is done via the number of users of the respective application.

Rapid implementation of adjustments and changes

Quick integration of new teams, departments or locations into the Atlassian Cloud – without wasting time: This means that work can be done from anywhere and independently of devices (e.g. via mobile app). The intuitive user interface of the cloud products additionally supports teams in the smooth cooperation and the successful implementation of their projects.

    Atlassian Cloud Portfolio
    Architecture Consulting

The goal of architectural consulting is to ensure a meaningful embedding of existing legacy systems (established, grown legacy systems) in the Atlassian Cloud environment and to develop appropriate technical concepts for this purpose. The next step is to create detailed migration and phase plans.

During the Assessment, a review of the existing server or data center implementation takes place to determine whether a migration to the Atlassian Cloud is reasonable and feasible. Among other things, the following will be examined

    • Implemented Use-Cases
    • Used apps (possible substitution by new options)
    • Data volumes
    • Integration of external systems
    • User Management

The review will result in a proposal for further action and an effort assessment. In addition, a data protection impact assessment can be carried out in accordance with the GDPR.

    License Upgrade Consulting

Moving to the Atlassian Cloud can result in complex license offerings due to different billing models of existing server or data center licenses. During the license upgrade consulting, the focus is especially on the terms, the different pricing models and the integrated apps with the goal of simplifying the offer and achieving cost optimization.

    Process Analysis

During the process analysis, technical concepts are developed, in which specific requirements, existing and also new process structures as well as the resulting user stories, are incorporated. The results then form the basis for the agile project implementation, in combination with the implementation (via backlog and sprints). The process analysis can also be used in combination with a process consulting, for example for the redesign of process organizations.

In the course of a SmartStart workshop, after a detailed requirements analysis, an individual prototype is created based on Jira, Jira Service Desk or Confluence with defined use cases. The first data, tasks and documents are already visualized in a collaborative working environment. After an extensive test phase, the results are evaluated and recommendations for action are derived for a rollout or a follow-up project.

    Proof of Concept (POC)

The proof of concept clearly focuses on the feasibility analysis of a project. Within a workshop, similar to the SmartStart workshop, a prototype of the desired Atlassian environment is created using pre-defined use cases. On the basis of the defined framework, there is the possibility, for example to check technical concepts in advance or to prepare a planned implementation / migration. Projects are thus specifically planned in advance and tested. The POC is also supported by long-standing catworkx best practices to achieve an optimal result.

Before the migration, a runbook is first created with all relevant information about the operation of the Atlassian application and the associated processes. Once all preparations are complete, the data and configuration of one or more server or data center environment(s) is then transferred to the Atlassian Cloud.

Concentrated catworkx knowledge combined in compact templates and configurations: catworkx blueprints provide ready-made and configured solutions and best practice approaches. The templates enable specialist departments a quick and cost-effective introduction to specific Atlassian topics and methods. catworkx-Blueprints is currently available in the following specifications:

    • GDPR
    • SAFe®
    • PPM
    • ITSM
    • Change Management (coming soon)

IT-technical implementation of business concepts (implementation concept): In the IT-technical implementation of an Atlassian Cloud, individual business concepts are transferred and implemented into the overall concept. This includes the following sub-areas:

    • Workflow modelling
    • Development of rights and role models
    • Scripting / Automation with available apps for the Atlassian Cloud
    • Definition of Custom Fields
    • Interconnection of Atlassian products (Jira Core, Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Statuspage, etc.)
    Cloud Customizing

catworkx develops customizations for Atlassian cloud products based on Forge”. These include workflow optimizations in Jira, specific display panels or even Confluence macros. If a customizing major data storage should become necessary, catworkx takes over the implementation and operation of the required server backend.

    Cloud Apps

As a long-standing Atlassian Platinum Partner, catworkx also offers cloud apps via the Atlassian Marketplace, including Teamworkx Issue Publisher for Jira and Teamworkx Issue Picker for Jira. Both apps are continuously developed and are often a functional part of the catworkx blueprints.

    Cloud Integrations

Atlassian software is typically integrated into enterprise value streams. If required, catworkx develops interfaces to in-house systems (e.g. SAP or Salesforce) or to other cloud services used.

    Identity Management

Effective identity management is an essential component for many companies today when it comes to controlling access authorizations and adhering to compliance guidelines. catworkx has many years of experience in connecting directory services via Identity Providers, which can be locally hosted or connected to the desired Atlassian application via web services (e.g. Azure ADFS).

Staging in the Atlassian Cloud offers flexible and effective possibilities (e.g. setting up test systems) for companies. With the support of catworkx, company-specific staging procedures are evaluated and established within a project.

As the world’s largest provider of Atlassian training, catworkx conducts a wide range of official training courses for Jira and Confluence (Cloud, Server & Data Center). All trainings can be held remotely, in the catworkx training rooms or on-site at the customer’s premises. An individually composed training program is also possible. Click here to the training calendar.

    2nd level support

catworkx customers who need support for their Atlassian Cloud environment can contact technical support (by phone, email or remote). Key users and administrators receive quick and uncomplicated assistance with questions and problems as well as support with the configuration or connection of systems.

    User Helpdesk (UHD)

In addition to the 2nd level support, catworkx customers also have the possibility to provide an internal helpdesk in their company, which is supervised by catworkx. Support requests from employees can be submitted and processed quickly and easily here. Dispatching to other support channels is also carried out if required.

The merge of two independent Atlassian instances does not sound particularly spectacular at first. However, the actual merging, for example of an existing cloud system (or on-prem system) and a new system on a cloud instance, is usually a highly complex matter and should only be carried out if possible under expert guidance. catworkx has many years of experience in this field and has successfully implemented numerous merge projects.

    Expert Workshop / Health Check

This workshop format offers the ideal framework for discussing questions regarding an existing Atlassian implementation in detail with experts and to develop suitable procedures and implementation strategies. This allows an implicit or explicit “health check” of an existing environment to be performed. This workshop can also be used to define specific activities or be “help for self-help”.
