The Atlassian Platinum Expert catworkx from Hamburg provides with the add-on “Mail-to-Custom Field” a functionality for JIRA applications (Jira Core, Jira Service Desk, Jira Software), with which all communication about a Jira process can be easily stored as comments on the process itself. For this purpose, a link is displayed in the process details, which opens the e-mail dialog of your mail client with just one mouse click. All relevant e-mail addresses are already automatically entered in the e-mail dialog.
It has proven to be a good idea for catworkx to define the e-mail address of a contact person as a mandatory field when creating a new Jira process. The address is then displayed in the details of each Jira operation, in the form of a link, using the “Mail-to Custom Field” add-on developed by catworkx. By clicking on the “Mail-to” link, the “Write new e-mail” dialog of the mail client opens automatically. Recipient addresses and subject are automatically pre-filled by the “Mail-to Custom Field” add-on.
One possible application is to store the e-mail address of a Mail Handler as CC or BCC recipient. The mail handler (e.g. JEHM), which scans all incoming e-mails, can automatically add the copy of the outgoing e-mail as a comment to the Jira process. In addition to all information stored for a Jira process, the mail-to-custom field allows the entire e-mail communication – accessible to all authorized persons – to be stored in the Jira application.
